About Garnet

Garnet is the traditional birthstone for the month of January, as well as for the astrological sign of Capricorn. It is also the gemstone associated with the 2nd wedding anniversary.

The name "Garnet" comes from the Latin word granatus ("gran") in reference to the Punica Granatum ("pomegranate") a plant with red seeds similar in shape and color to garnet crystals. The Garnet is associated with Hestia, Greek goddess of home and hearth, and Persephone, Greek goddess of the Underworld. The Garnet is a stone of protection and also thought to help bring victory for the wearer in battle.

Garnet is also a sensual stone, being aligned creative energy on the physical plane. It represents the primordial fire, the creation of the world out of chaos, purification and love.
