Our Process

Is all of your jewelry handmade?

Every piece of our jewelry is absolutely handmade from concept to fabrication to finishing. A limited number of our pieces incorporate elements which are cast from our own original hand carved wax models; for these pieces we work with a small woman-owned and operated casting studio in San Francisco. JR Casting will cast a unique item in precious metal directly from our model, or make a mold of our model to cast multiples, which we then use to create our finished jewelry. Other than the limited cast elements we procure from JR Casting, every piece of our jewelry is a product of our own hands.

How are your materials or studio practices sustainable?

Our mission as jewelers is inextricably tied to our ethics, as individuals and as a business. This is why the very building blocks of our work are chosen with care to reflect our commitment to sustainable and professional jewelry practices. We work purposefully with Fairmined Gold, Argentium Silver, and ethically sourced gemstones to ensure we are responsible in our use of resources, and our studio practices are always striving to save energy, reduce waste, and avoid harm to the environment.

It is our intention to provide the most sustainably designed heirloom jewelry for our conscientious customers, from concept to materials to the finest customer service possible.

Fairmined Gold

Fairmined is an assurance label that certifies gold from empowered responsible artisanal and small-scale mining organizations. It transforms mining into an active force for good, ensuring social development and environmental protection, providing everyone with a source of gold to be proud of.

Argentium Silver

Argentium is a bright and lustrous alloy of sterling silver that has a range of unique and superior properties. Brighter than platinum, white gold, palladium and traditional Sterling, Argentium is also tarnish resistant, making it a beautiful, affordable option for wedding rings and fine jewelry. Argentium is made from 100% recycled silver.

Ethically Sourced Gems

Fairtrade and Fairmined gems are actually new and evolving concepts in the jewelry industry. A trusted few organizations have demonstrated the commitment to building a mine-to-market supply chain that can be trusted by both jewelers and conscientious consumers.

As jewelers, we occupy a place of responsibility to our customers, to cultivate best practices by seeking out gemstone sources with the highest standards and traceability. We seek out gems that are mined and/or cut in America, often from artisanal miners, lapidaries, and collectors. Occasionally we are lucky enough to procure assortments of loose heirloom gems from retiring jewelers (mined and cut before sustainability standards were established). While we may not be able to trace the original pedigree on these stones, we believe their historical value far outweighs the environmental and economic impact of gems sourced from most modern global operations.

Following best practices of purchasing ethically sourced gemstones shifts and uplifts the definition of fine jewelry by modern standards, changing the paradigm of what is traditionally known as "fine" gemstones and the jewelry that features them. What’s most valuable in this new paradigm is the lineage of a gem and its positive impact on the economy and community where it was mined, cut, and presented to market. We are proud to be part of the growing movement toward responsible jewelry.

Bespoke (Custom) Orders

What is the minimum cost of a custom jewelry order?

All custom jewelry projects necessitate a $1000 minimum charge.

How do I begin a custom jewelry order?

The first step in our collaboration will be scheduling a consultation via phone, Facetime, or in person to discuss what you are looking for in your custom jewelry. Once we have an idea of what your project will encompass, we ask you to agree to our terms of service in our Custom Design contract. Once signed, a deposit of $500 (or half the expected budget of the project) will be due. A minimum of $500 of this deposit is non-refundable to cover our time, research, and design services.

We will then present three design sketches to you for feedback and/or approval. You choose which of the sketches to proceed with and let us know any changes you’d like to see, and we will incorporate these revisions into your final design. Further changes to design or direction after the first round of revisions may require an additional fee.

Once the final design sketch is approved, we determine a timeline for production and finishing, purchase the raw materials and begin fabrication of your piece.

Balance will be due upon completion and delivery of your custom jewelry.

Can I request a payment plan for custom jewelry orders?

We will consider payment plans for projects over $2000 on case by case basis.

Can you accommodate rush orders?

We are happy to consider expediting your order if the item (or materials) is in stock and our production schedule allows. For in stock items between $50-250 the expedite fee is $25 + the shipping upgrade. For custom work such as engagement rings, anniversary gifts, etc. (when possible) the flat expedite fee is $300.

Can you use gold or gemstones from my vintage or heirloom jewelry?

We will consider working with special materials such as reclaimed gold or gemstones from your heirloom jewelry for your custom project. We are not responsible for damage or loss during reclamation of or fabrication with said materials provided.

Meteorite Rings

How do I order a custom meteorite ring?

You may order a banded meteorite ring from our House Styles, or a more unique incarnation of meteorite by commissioning a bespoke ring (see above) to your specifications.

Our meteorite bands and solitaires are sourced from the raw ore in varied widths, thicknesses, and patterns. We aim for a consistent proportion between the width of the inlaid meteorite ore and the width of the gold or silver bands encasing it, but this proportion may vary depending on the raw ore we have in stock and the width and size of the band requested. Meteorite ore pattern is highly variable; its pattern may not be uniform around the ring, and may show naturally occurring “inclusions.” We cannot guarantee uniform or predictable patterning throughout the visible meteorite ore in your ring.

Important notes for meteorite rings
  • Meteorite rings are non-refundable.
  • Meteorite rings are not re-sizable. We will confirm your size by mailing you a sizer (you mark it and send us a photo of it) before beginning work on your ring.
  • Turnaround time for a single meteorite ring is currently 4-8 weeks. For a pair of meteorite rings, turnaround time may be longer.
  • Meteorite is essentially an iron ore. We will provide you with care instructions for your meteorite ring upon delivery.

Jewelry Care

How do I care for my new jewelry?

We recommend gently washing your piece with mild soap and a toothbrush as needed; dry thoroughly with a soft, natural fiber cloth or hair dryer for best results. We strongly advise against chemical dips as they can cause pitting and damage to the metal over time. Do not wear your jewelry where chemicals are present, such as a pool or hot tub.

Argentium Care

To keep your new Argentium jewelry bright and beautiful, wipe gently with a clean cloth after wearing and store in a cool, airtight pouch for the longest resistance to tarnish and wear. If your piece is exposed to dirt, grime or perfume, simply wash with mild soap and water and dry thoroughly with a soft, natural fiber cloth or a hair dryer. Buff to a shine using a polishing cloth that is reserved for Argentium only; do not polish with a cloth also used for sterling silver. Do not use chemical dips or polishing cloths on antiqued, oxidized, or satin finished Argentium.

Resizing  |  Exchanges  |  Repairs

Can my ring be resized?

Most of our house styles can be resized; for these we offer one free resizing (buyer is responsible for return and reshipping costs). Some Ready to Wear rings can be resized (please inquire before purchasing) for a $40 fee + return and reshipping costs. For more information on sizing, see our Policies.

Do you accept returns?

Exchanges and store credit are offered on a case-by-case basis; please contact us to discuss your needs. We may offer an exchange or store credit for sales up to 7 days after delivery. We regret that we cannot offer refunds.

What if my new jewelry needs repair?

For defect or light damage due to normal wear and tear, we will repair any piece of our jewelry up to one year from date of purchase free of charge. After one year, a repair fee TBD may be applicable.
